Many times, I am asked why I chose photography. I don't think I chose it. I think it chose me.
Ever since I was a kid I have found myself fascinated by photographs of people, whether I knew them or not. If someone asked me what I love most I would answer 'Looking at People!'. I love observing people. When I enter people's home, the first thing that draws me in are their family portraits on their walls. To me, this is the first thing that will create the homey feeling. I can spend hours looking at people's albums, even if I just met them. I will be this person who speaks to someone they just met in the park and asks them if they have pictures of their loved ones.
I was the third child to my parents, and as in most cases, by the time I arrived, my parents were tired of taking pictures. It always bothered that my friends had lots of pictures of themselves as babies and I did not. When elementary school teachers asked us to bring photos of us as babies or toddlers, I only had a few to show. This always bothered me to no end.
When staying at a B&B, I love walking through the halls and looking at the pictures of their ancestors. The grandma when she was a kid, the owner and her sister posing with their parents.
Since I don't have enough of my own childhood pictures, I have a desire to commemorate the happy childhood of other kids. I am fascinated by the loving look in a mother's eye, the warm proud smile of a dad's.
Photography is also my way of self soothing. It is my artistic outlet. A safe place of self expression. Whether I feel anxious or sad about things I read on the news, or have my own personal challenges, photography lifts me up. I love editing the images at home, playing with colors in Lightroom software, just like an artist uses a brush.
Photography is also a way for me to connect with new people in a fun way. My clients are excited for their session, they dress up and get together as a family, and are eager to get the images I capture. It is a way to not only capture their smile, it is a way to make people happy.
I am so happy when I deliver the images. When a client tells me he cannot decide which one he/she/they want to get, I know I did a good job.
A portrait session is perfect for blended families, single/divorced parents, couples without kids, and what not. We all deserve to capture ourselves with our loved ones. Is it just you and your pup, don't hesitate!
Let me ask you, when was the last time you treated yourself for a session with your special people? If it was a long time ago, let's connect and capture your happy moments.
