Are you expecting a baby or just had one and you want an in-home lifestyle session but feel apprehensive since your home is too small? Or maybe you are living in a small rental and your furniture is not as nice as you would like them to be. Well, you have two options. Find a photography studio that has a bedroom/living room setting or call a friend/family member with the dream house and see if they are willing to let you use their house for a couple of hours.
As a Bay Area Newborn and Family Photographer, this happened to me lately with two different clients. One mom had a newborn, the client who was looking for an in-home maternity session. Think who in your immediate circle has a home with big windows and lots of natural light. Light colored furniture is a bonus, but if they don't have light colored sofas and they are not comfortable with you using their bedroom, no worries. We can shoot near a window.
Remember to get to the home of your friend/family about one hour before the session time to straighten the room where the photoshoot will take place. It is important to remember to remove clatter from the background before your session. Photos of the other family should not be in the background. Just put the photos somewhere safe and remember to put them back in their place when you are done with the session.
You can always bring some photos from you home to put in the background, maybe even a favorite decorative pillow and a throw blanket to make it similar to your taste. Nice flowers in a vase will also do the trick. Just remember, your family will make these images personal, so don't focus too much on the setting.
