Two years ago, I was requested by Jeneen Slack from Summit Financial to photograph her beautiful family of 6 in an urban setting. I have never done a session like that prior to her request, but I was up for the challenge. The thought of Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley came to my mind right away. In the next few days, I strolled around Berkeley's busy streets scouting for my spots. It was actually quite fun. I was looking into different graffiti locations, cool brick walls, streets with textures, cafes and charming little bookstores.
Of course, you need to remember that an urban setting is very dynamic. Cars, trucks, pedestrians that are there when you scout for the ideal shooting location will not be there when the shooting event takes place. One little surprise awaiting us was a big parked truck that blocked the mural we were hoping to shoot against. We decided to walk a block up and found no parked cars blocking the next spot. To me it felt like a 'find the treasure game'.
Your next Fall Mini Session can be whatever you want it to look like. It can be in a local park, at a hiking trail, and even in an urban setting. Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley has a lot of cool spots, as well as UC Berkeley Campus, the Mission District in SF, SJ Downtown, or any other neighborhood with cool features that will make your next fall family pictures look different.
Wear your nice fall colors, add a cool hat and a scarf, and bring your favorite coffee mug along. While at it, bring your umbrellas as well as a prop. I promise, these shots will be awesome. Remember, stick to solid colors as the urban setting is busy as it is, especially if you are aiming to be photographed against a wall with graffiti.
If you are looking for an urban feel, let's connect and decide together on a location.
Would love to capture your smile this fall!
